Detailed description of Old South Golf Links
Old South Golf Links is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Bluffton, South Carolina, just over the bridge from Hilton Head Island.
Old South Golf Links first opened for play in 1991. The course was designed by Clyde Johnston.
Old South Golf Links course was rated by "Golf Digest" as one of the top ten new public courses in the country for 1992. The constant change of terrain, from an oak forest to open pastures, then to tidal marshes provided an opportunity for the designer to vary the characteristic elements of each hole and requires excellent course management by the golfer in order to score low. This course features a marsh on the front holes, three island greens, towering live oaks, rolling Scottish terrain and a low-country-style clubhouse.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6772 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4776 yards. The longest hole on the course is #14, a par-5 that plays to 555 yards. The shortest hole on the course is #8, a par-3 that plays to 160 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for #6, a 397 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole at the Old South Golf Links. The easiest hole is #11, a 185 yard par-3. The signature hole is #16, a 417-yard, par 4, requiring a shot over water to an island green.

I've played here 70-80 times and enjoy it each time, as well as guest I play with also enjoy and want to come back!

Played for the 1st time in many years and renewed love with the great Clyde Johnston design, especially from the blue tees. It's really 3 separate courses... at first, open and easy, then target golf in a sea marsh, then a classic tight Lowcountry layout and then back into the sea marsh. Excellent variety of holes and mostly no homes on the course. Beautiful marsh views. Condition was below normal due to heavy recent rains (cart path only) and recent aeration. Marshall was worthless in controlling pace of play. Definitely worth playing, especially if you can get a special. Live oak tree in the middle of the fairway in front of #10 green is stupid. Magnificent live oak, not in play, between #15 & #16.

Really fun course with some unusual design twists. Can get very busy; but met some very nice people at starter shack. Staff does a good job keeping play moving and really wants to please. Some big gators make the course a home. Looking forward to playing again.

Used to play this course while down here on vacation before I moved here three years ago. Still enjoy it as much if not more now. Great conditions for a public course and very scenic as well.
